Natural Habitat
Typically found on boxelder, maple, and ash trees; often migrates to sunny walls of buildings or indoors for shelter in autumn.
Diet & Feeding
Mainly feeds on the flowers and seeds of boxelder trees, but may also consume juices from maples and ash trees.
Behavior Patterns
Known for congregating in large groups on warm south-facing surfaces. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and seek crevices to overwinter.
Risks & Benefits
They are generally harmless to humans, pets, and structures. They do not bite or sting but can be a nuisance in large numbers and may leave small stains with their excrement if crushed.
