Booklouse

Indoor environments with high humidity, such as bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and around libraries or stored paper products.

Microscopic molds, fungi, starches, wallpaper paste, and organic debris found in damp areas.

They are wingless, move quickly when disturbed, and thrive in warm, humid conditions. They reproduce parthenogenetically (without mating) in many indoor settings.

They do not bite, transmit diseases, or damage wood like termites, but large numbers can be a nuisance and indicate a moisture or mold problem in the home.
