Size: Larval case is roughly 5-10 mm long

Case-bearing Clothes Moth (Larva/Case)

Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas such as closets, under furniture, or on carpets, specifically where natural fibers (wool, silk, fur) are present.

Diet & Feeding

The larva feeds on keratin-rich animal fibers including wool, fur, silk, feathers, felt, and sometimes hair or pet dander found in dust.

Behavior Patterns

The larva builds a protective, portable silken case incorporating fibers and debris from its environment (which is why the case in the image looks sandy/brown). It carries this case around as it moves to feed, rarely leaving it until it pupates.

Risks & Benefits

They are considered a household pest as they damage clothing, carpets, and upholstery made of natural fibers. They do not bite or sting humans and pose no direct health risk, but can cause significant economic damage to textiles.
