Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they use CO2 and heat to locate hosts. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive months without feeding.
Risks & Benefits
Risk: They cause itchy welts, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress and insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases but are a major nuisance pest. No ecosystem benefits in human environments.
