Natural Habitat

Omnivorous; they consume a wide variety of foods including fats, proteins, and sweets, often scavenging for crumbs or grease.
Behavior Patterns
They are known for 'budding,' where a subset of the colony including queens moves to a new location if disturbed. They form large, multi-queen colonies and create persistent foraging trails.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a significant pest species. They can mechanically transmit pathogens like Salmonella and Streptococcus, particularly in hospitals. They are difficult to eradicate with contact sprays because of their budding behavior.
