Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Scavengers that feed on dry animal products, including wool, fur, feathers, silk, dead insects, hair, and sometimes dried plant materials/grains.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are slowly active and prefer dark, secluded spaces. They undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult). The larval stage is the most destructive and can last for several months to a year.
Risks & Benefits
They are serious household pests that damage clothing, upholstery, and carpets. While they do not bite humans, their bristly hairs (hastisetae) can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
