Natural Habitat

Damp environments with decaying organic matter, household plants with moist soil, and greenhouses.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae primarily feed on fungi, algae, and decaying plant matter; however, they can occasionally damage plant roots. Adults do not feed.

Behavior Patterns

Weak fliers often found running across surfaces near ground level. Attracted to light and moisture; go through egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages rapidly.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans but can be a persistent nuisance indoors. In large numbers, larvae can damage roots of houseplants or seedlings. Benefits include decomposition of organic material.
