Natural fibers such as wool, silk, leather, fur, feathers, pet hair, dried animal remains, and sometimes pantry items like dry pet food or cereals.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are the damaging stage, actively feeding and growing through several molts. They prefer dark, undisturbed areas. Adults are winged and often found near windows as they are attracted to light, or outdoors feeding on pollen and nectar.
Risks & Benefits
Potential risks include damage to personal property (clothing, carpets, upholstery, furs, taxidermy) made of natural fibers. They do not bite humans or transmit diseases. No significant benefits in a household setting, though some outdoor species are decomposers.
