Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; larvae often feed on roots, while adults feed on the leaves and stems of various plants.

Behavior Patterns

Many species are nocturnal and hide in soil or debris during the day. Most cannot fly and climb plants to feed. They undergo complete metamorphosis with eggs laid in soil.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans and do not bite or sting. Some species are considered agricultural pests because they damage foliage and root systems of ornamental and food crops.
