Booklouse (or Psocid)
Scientific Name: Liposcelis spp. (e.g. Liposcelis bostrychophila)
Order & Family: Psocodea: Liposcelididae
Size: Very small, typically 1 mm to 2 mm in length.

Natural Habitat
Found indoors in high-humidity areas, often residing in old books, wallpaper paste, cereal boxes, or dusty corners; outdoors found in bird nests, bark, and leaf litter.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds on microscopic molds, fungi, starch-based glues (like those in book bindings), grain products, and organic debris.
Behavior Patterns
They do not bite or fly (many indoor species are wingless). They move in a jerky, run-and-stop motion. Populations can explode quickly in warm, damp conditions.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Harmless to humans and pets (no biting or stinging), but can contaminate stored dry foods and large populations indicate a humidity/mold issue in the home. Benefits: In nature, they help break down organic detritus.
