Natural Habitat
Dwellings human inhabited areas, primarily nesting in bed frames, mattresses, crevices, and baseboards.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis and can survive for several months without a meal. They are known for 'hitchhiking' on luggage and clothing to new locations.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin rashes, psychological distress (insomnia/anxiety), and potential allergic reactions. While they are not known vectors of disease, they are extremely difficult and costly to eradicate. There are no known benefits to the ecosystem in human environments.
