Natural Habitat

Indoors, commonly found in neglected areas like under carpets, furniture, in closets, or around baseboards. They feed on natural fibers.

Diet & Feeding

Keratin-rich materials such as wool, silk, fur, feathers, leather, pet hair, dried animal remains, and sometimes pantry items.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are often slow-moving and hide in dark, undisturbed places. They undergo complete metamorphosis. The adults are typically attracted to light and are often found near windows, and feed on pollen and nectar outdoors.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include damage to textiles, clothing, carpets, and other natural fiber products. They do not bite or transmit diseases to humans. Benefits are negligible in an indoor setting, though outdoors they can act as scavengers.
