Cicada Exuvia (Cicada Molting Shell)

Found clinging to tree trunks, wooden fences, and walls after nymphs emerge from underground to molt into adults.

As an empty exoskeleton (molt), it no longer feeds. However, the living nymph feeds underground on plant root sap using piercing-sucking mouthparts.

Nymphs spend years underground before crawling up vertical surfaces in late spring or summer, anchoring themselves to shed their final larval skin and transform into winged adult cicadas.

Completely harmless to humans and pets; does not bite, sting, or carry disease. The exoskeleton is biodegradable and leaves behind no threat, while the living cicadas provide a valuable food source for birds and other wildlife.
