Natural Habitat
Damp, humid environments, often found in books, stored food products, under wallpaper, or in other places with mold or fungal growth. Indoors, they thrive in areas with high humidity.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds on microscopic mold, fungi, starches, glues in book bindings, wallpaper paste, and other organic matter. They do not bite humans or pets.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and generally avoid light. They are often found in large numbers when conditions are favorable (high humidity, food source). They are wingless or have reduced wings indoors and are quick-moving.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered a nuisance pest. They do not transmit diseases, bite, or cause structural damage. However, in large numbers, they can damage books, stored paper products, and food items by chewing on the surface or leaving behind fecal spots. Their presence often indicates a humidity problem.
