Natural Habitat
Typically found in residential or hospitality settings, hiding in cracks, crevices, upholstery, mattress seams, and headboards near human sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Hematophagous; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Primarily nocturnal and elusive. They are attracted to carbon dioxide and body heat. After feeding, they retreat to secluded hiding spots to digest and reproduce. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, skin infections from scratching, and significant psychological distress or insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known benefits to the ecosystem.
