Natural Habitat
Indoor environments near human sleeping areas, including mattresses, bed frames, cracks/crevices, and upholstery.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and require a blood meal to molt into each successive stage.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin rashes, psychological distress, and potential allergic reactions; they do not transmit diseases. They offer no known ecosystem benefits in human habitats and are considered a major domestic pest.
