Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, particularly in closets, drawers, and areas where natural fibers are stored.
Diet & Feeding
Keratin-rich materials including wool, fur, feathers, silk, and felt; occasionally consumes dead insects or hair.
Behavior Patterns
The larva constructs a protective silk tube or 'case' incorporating fibers from its food source. It carries this case while feeding and eventually pupates inside it. Adults are poor fliers and prefer darkness.
Risks & Benefits
Significant household pest that causes damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets. They provide no direct benefit to humans and can be destructive to museum collections and heirloom textiles.
