Natural Habitat
Found in indoor human environments, primarily hidden in seams of mattresses, cracks and crevices of bed frames, behind baseboards, and within upholstered furniture.
Diet & Feeding
Eggs do not eat; however, newly hatched nymphs immediately seek blood meals from human or animal hosts.
Behavior Patterns
The eggs are sticky when first laid, allowing them to adhere to surfaces. A single female can lay 1-5 eggs per day, typically hatching in about 6 to 10 days depending on temperature.
Risks & Benefits
No ecosystem benefits. These represent a significant household pest risk. Infestations can cause itchy bites, allergic reactions, psychological distress, and secondary skin infections from scratching.
