Diet & Feeding

Scavengers that feed on dry animal and plant products, including wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, pet food, and dried insects.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae prefer dark, undisturbed areas such as under carpets, behind baseboards, and inside closets. They undergo several molts, leaving behind empty brown skins.

Risks & Benefits

Significant household pests that damage upholstery, clothing, and textiles. Their hairs (setae) can cause allergic reactions or dermatitis in sensitive individuals. They do not bite humans.
