Natural Habitat
Typically found in human dwellings, hidden in cracks, crevices, bed frames, mattresses, and furniture near sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood during the night.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they undergo five nymphal stages (instars) and must have a blood meal to molt. They can survive several months without feeding.
Risks & Benefits
While not known to transmit diseases, they cause itchy welts, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress. They have no known benefits to the home ecosystem.
