Larvae feed on natural fibers like wool, silk, hair, feathers, and dried animal products. Adults feed on pollen and nectar.

Larvae are scavengers and move slowly while feeding. Adults are attracted to light and are often found near windows. They undergo complete metamorphosis.

They are a common household pest that can damage carpets, clothing, and upholstery. Their larval hairs can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. They do not bite humans or pets.
