Natural Habitat

The epidermis (human skin), where they burrow into the stratum corneum.

Diet & Feeding

They feed on dissolved human skin cells and extracellular fluid.

Behavior Patterns

The female mite burrows a tunnel under the skin to lay eggs. This triggers an allergic reaction in the host. They are spread through direct, prolonged skin-to-skin contact.

Risks & Benefits

Causes Scabies, a highly contagious skin infestation characterized by intense itching and a pimple-like rash. Secondary infections can occur from scratching.
