Natural Habitat

Found globally; specifically inhabits indoor human environments, hiding in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, and crevices near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they emerge at night to feed and then return to nearby hiding spots. They undergo five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal to molt into each successive stage.

Risks & Benefits

Significant household pest; bites can cause itchy red welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases, they are difficult and expensive to eradicate. They offer no known benefits to humans or the domestic ecosystem.
