Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on protein-filled animal fibers such as wool, silk, fur, feathers, and hair. They do not eat synthetic fabrics unless blended with animal fibers.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae construct a protective silken case incorporating fibers from the material they feed on. They carry this 'sleeping bag' style case everywhere they go and pupate inside it. Adults do not feed and are weak fliers that prefer darkness.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Major household pest that can cause significant damage to clothing, carpets, and upholstery. Benefits: In nature, they act as decomposers by breaking down animal keratin left in bird nests or mammal dens.
