Natural Habitat

Typically found in cracks and crevices within human dwellings, particularly in and around beds, mattresses, and furniture.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis, shedding their exoskeleton (molting) five times before reaching maturity.

Risks & Benefits

They are a significant public health pest. While not known to transmit diseases, their bites cause itching, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. Infestations are difficult and costly to eradicate.
