Behavior Patterns
Larvae prefer dark, undisturbed areas. They undergo a complete metamorphosis and are characterized by their slow movement and distinctive tufts of hair at the rear.
Risks & Benefits
Significant household pests that cause damage to fabrics and stored goods; their hairs can cause skin irritation or 'carpet beetle dermatitis' in sensitive individuals. They benefit the ecosystem by breaking down organic debris.
