Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Adults feed on the foliage, flowers, and fruits of over 300 plant species, including roses, grapes, and beans. Larvae (grubs) eat the roots of grasses.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are active during the day and are social feeders, often congregating in large numbers to skeletonize leaves. They have a one-year life cycle, spending the winter as larvae in the soil.
Risks & Benefits
Considered a highly destructive invasive pest that damages crops and ornamental plants. Larvae are major pests of turfgrass. They offer little benefit outside their native ecosystem.
