Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle Pupa
Scientific Name: Harmonia axyridis
Order & Family: Order: Coleoptera; Family: Coccinellidae
Size: 5 to 8 mm (slightly smaller than the adult beetle)

Natural Habitat
Found globally in gardens, forests, agricultural fields, and often on human structures during pupation.
Diet & Feeding
Does not eat during the pupal stage. As larvae and adults, they consume aphids, scale insects, and other soft-bodied pests.
Behavior Patterns
The pupa is the stationary stage between larva and adult. It attaches itself to a substrate with a glue-like substance. When disturbed, it may exhibit a 'twitching' reflex to deter predators.
Risks & Benefits
Highly beneficial to the ecosystem as they control aphid populations. However, they can be a nuisance to humans when they aggregate in homes during winter and can produce a staining yellow fluid if crushed.
