Size: 4 to 5 mm (adults); nymphs can be as small as 1.5 mm.

Natural Habitat
Found globally in human dwellings, typically nesting in bedding, mattresses, bed frames, cracks, and crevices near sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for several months without a meal.
Risks & Benefits
No known ecosystem benefits. Risks include allergic reactions to bites, secondary skin infections from scratching, psychological distress, and insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans.
