Natural Habitat

Often found indoors in dark, humid environments such as pantries, attics, wall voids, and warehouses. They hide in cracks and crevices near food sources.

Diet & Feeding

Scavengers that feed on a wide variety of dried organic materials, including grains, flour, spices, dried fruit, wool, hair, dead insects, and rodent droppings.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and flightless. They are slow-moving and often play dead when disturbed. Their long legs and rounded, shiny bodies give them a spider-like appearance, which is distinct.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: They are pantry pests that can contaminate stored food products. Benefits: they act as general decomposers/scavengers but are primarily considered a nuisance in homes.
