Case-bearing Clothes Moth Larva

Natural Habitat

Found indoors in closets, carpets, and dark corners where natural fibers (wool, fur, feathers) or dust accumulation occurs.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on keratin-rich animal fibers such as wool, cashmere, fur, silk, feathers, felt, and carpets.

Behavior Patterns

Unlike other moth larvae, this species never leaves its portable protective case. It travels by dragging the case along, protruding its head and legs from the front opening. The case is constructed from silk and debris (sand, fibers) from its environment.

Risks & Benefits

This is a common household pest. The primary risk is significant damage to clothing, rugs, upholstery, and natural fabric items. They are generally harmless to humans directly (they do not bite or sting) but can be costly due to property damage.
