Natural Habitat

Warm, humid indoor environments such as kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry areas where food and water are accessible.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous scavenger; eats almost anything including crumbs, grease, glue, soap, and decaying organic matter.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and highly reproductive. They prefer cracks and crevices near moisture. Females carry an ootheca (egg case) until just before hatching, which improves survival rates.

Risks & Benefits

Significant household pest. Risks include spreading pathogens (Salmonella, E. coli), contaminating food, and triggered asthma or allergies via their droppings and shed skins. No significant ecosystem benefits in human habitats.
