They exhibit a complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult). Adults are attracted to light and often found near windows, while larvae avoid light and hide in dark, quiet areas.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite or spread disease, but the larvae can cause significant damage to household goods and clothing. Some people may experience allergic skin reactions (dermatitis) to the hairs of the larvae.
