Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, primarily feeding on human blood, though they may also bite other warm-blooded mammals.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they use CO2 and heat sensors to locate hosts. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for months without feeding.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include skin rashes, psychological distress, and allergic reactions to bites. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known ecological benefits for humans.
