Bed Bug (Infestation Sign / Stain)

Human dwellings, specifically seams of mattresses, box springs, bed frames, headboards, and cracks or crevices near sleeping areas.

Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Nocturnal and elusive, hiding during the day in tight seams and crevices. They leave behind reddish-brown blood smears (from being crushed or excreting digested blood) and dark fecal spotting on bedding.

Risks include itchy, red bite welts, allergic reactions, secondary skin infections from scratching, anxiety, and sleep deprivation. They do not transmit human pathogens directly, but infestations cause significant psychological and financial distress. They offer no beneficial ecological services in indoor human environments.
