Natural Habitat

Damp environments, particularly houseplant soil, greenhouses, and organic mulch.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on fungi, organic matter, and plant roots; adults do not feed or may consume water and nectar.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are weak fliers often seen crawling on soil or hovering near light sources. Females lay eggs in moist soil where larvae develop.

Risks & Benefits

Primarily a nuisance; however, large larval populations can damage plant roots and spread soil-borne diseases. They do not bite humans.
