Case-bearing Clothes Moth (Larva/Case)

Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas such as closets, under furniture, in carpets, and near stored natural fabrics like wool or fur.

Diet & Feeding

The larvae feed on keratin-rich materials, including wool, fur, silk, feathers, felt, and sometimes hair or pet dander found in dust.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs and carries a silken case around its body, which it camouflages with fibers from the material it is eating. It can turn around inside the case to feed from either end.

Risks & Benefits

They are considered a household pest because the larvae chew holes in clothing, carpets, and upholstery made from natural fibers. They do not bite or sting humans and pose no direct health risk.
