Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors in dry, warm locations, often in ceilings, high on walls, behind picture frames, inside electronics, and in furniture. Unlike other cockroaches, they prefer higher locations and drier areas, making them common in bedrooms and living rooms, not just kitchens and bathrooms. They can also be found in commercial buildings and apartments.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous scavengers, feeding on a wide variety of organic matter including starches, glues, wallpaper paste, books, and even other insects. They need very little moisture and can survive in dry conditions.

Behavior Patterns

Nymphs and adults are nocturnal, preferring dark, moist environments. They are known for rapid growth and molting. Females produce oothecae (egg cases) which they may carry or deposit in hidden locations. They are highly adaptable and can reproduce quickly, leading to rapid infestations if conditions are favorable.

Risks & Benefits

Potential risks include spreading pathogens, triggering allergies and asthma due to their droppings and shed skins, and contaminating food surfaces. They are a significant household pest and can damage household items. There are no known benefits of this insect to humans or the ecosystem.
