Larvae feed on natural fibers (wool, silk, feathers, fur) and dried organic matter; adults feed on pollen and nectar.

Larvae prefer dark, undisturbed areas like closets or under furniture. They undergo complete metamorphosis; adults are attracted to light and often found near windows.

Considered a household pest as larvae can damage fabrics and carpets; larval hairs can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some people. No significant benefits to humans.
