Case-bearing Clothes Moth (larva)

Natural Habitat

Indoors in dark, undisturbed areas such as closets, under furniture, or behind baseboards where natural fibers are stored.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on keratins found in natural fibers including wool, silk, fur, feathers, and hair. They do not eat synthetic fabrics.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective silken case around its body, often incorporating bits of the fiber it is eating. It carries this case as it moves. They are photophobic (avoid light) and complete their entire life cycle indoors.

Risks & Benefits

They are a household pest that causes significant damage to clothing, carpets, and upholstery made of natural materials. They pose no direct health risk to humans or pets but are economically destructive.
