Natural Habitat
Typically found in human dwellings, especially in mattresses, bed frames, and cracks or crevices near sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous (feeds exclusively on blood), primarily from humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal; they emerge at night to feed and hide during the day. They undergo hemimetabolous metamorphosis, passing through five nymphal stages that each require a blood meal to molt.
Risks & Benefits
Risk: Causes itchy, red welts through bites; can lead to secondary skin infections, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. Benefits: None to humans; they are considered a domestic nuisance pest.
