Nocturnal parasites that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal between each molt.

Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. While they do not transmit diseases, they are significant domestic pests and difficult to eradicate.
