Natural Habitat

Human dwellings, primarily in mattresses, bed frames, cracks in walls, and furniture near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophagous; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (5 nymphal stages) and require a blood meal to molt.

Risks & Benefits

They are significant indoor pests that cause itchy welts and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases, they can cause allergic reactions and secondary skin infections from scratching.
