Case-bearing Clothes Moth (Larva)

Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors in dark, quiet areas like closets, underneath carpets, or in storage boxes where natural fibers are present.

Diet & Feeding

The larvae feed on keratin-rich natural fibers such as wool, fur, silk, feathers, felt, and sometimes hair or pet dander.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a silken case around itself, which it camouflages with fibers from the material it is eating. It carries this case around for protection as it feeds. They tend to avoid light.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Major household pest that can cause significant damage to expensive clothing, rugs, upholstery, and furs. Benefits: In nature, they help break down animal matter, but inside homes, they are solely considered distinct pests.
