Book louse (Booklice)

Natural Habitat

Found in high-humidity areas, damp basements, crawl spaces, and around books or paper products. They thrive where mold and mildew grow.

Diet & Feeding

They feed on microscopic molds, fungi, starch, damp paper, glue (like in book bindings), and stored grains.

Behavior Patterns

They do not fly (most indoor species are wingless) and run quickly when disturbed. They are often found in large numbers if humidity is unchecked.

Risks & Benefits

Harmless to humans and pets (they do not bite or spread disease). However, they can contaminate stored food products and damage books or wallpaper. Their presence is usually an indicator of high humidity or mold issues.
