Found indoors in homes, warehouses, and museums; outdoors in bird or rodent nests and on flowers.

Larvae eat natural fibers (wool, silk), feathers, hair, and dried pantry goods; adults eat pollen and nectar.

Includes a complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult). Larvae are reclusive and avoid light, while adults are attracted to light.

Potential household pest that can damage clothing, carpets, and upholstery. Larvae hairs can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some people.
