Reduvius personatus

- Hemiptera / Reduviidae
- Size
- Nymphs are 1/8 to 3/4 inches; adults reach about 0.8 inches (20 mm).
Natural Habitat
Typically found indoors in high-dust areas like basements and attics, but also occurs in wooded areas and gardens.
Diet & Feeding
Strictly carnivorous; hunts small arthropods including bed bugs, carpet beetles, termites, and silverfish.
Behavior Patterns
The nymphal stage covers itself in dust, lint, and sand to camouflage from both predators and prey. They are nocturnal hunters and generally move slowly unless attacking.
Risks & Benefits
Benefits humans by acting as a natural pest control for bed bugs and silverfish. However, if handled or threatened, they can deliver a very painful bite similar to a bee sting, though it is not medically significant.
