Diet & Feeding
Scavengers that feed on natural fibers such as wool, silk, feathers, fur, and dead insects.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae prefer dark, undisturbed areas and are most active as they feed and grow. They undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks include damage to household textiles and clothing. Some people may experience allergic reactions (dermatitis) from contact with the larval hairs. They do not bite humans.
