Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Hematophagous (feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans).

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal feeding; they aggregate in hidden cracks and crevices during the day. They go through five nymphal stages, shedding their skin (molting) at each stage, often leaving behind translucent casings like the one pictured.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Their bites cause itchy welts, allergic reactions, anxiety, and insomnia. They are a major nuisance pest and difficult to eradicate. They are not known to spread disease directly to humans. Benefits: None.
