Earwig

Moist, dark environments such as under rocks, mulch, bark, and inside crevices.

Omnivorous; they consume decaying plant matter, smaller insects, and some garden plants.

Nocturnal; they use pincer-like cerci for defense and mating. They exhibit maternal care for their eggs and nymphs.

Generally harmless to humans; they can pinch if handled but are not venomous. They can be garden pests but also benefit the ecosystem by consuming other small pests and decaying organic matter.
